things done but not forgotten!

I have made several projects as I hinted at in my last post.  Here is a very simple one that I did for my children- it had to be green for Kate and a double do for Adam.  He requested a hat that could be somewhat slouchy or doubled up for more ear coverage!  So here they are standing by our tree!
Hope your Christmas was wonderful!

Family Christmas Blessing

First I cannot believe that it has been so long since I posted.  It is not that I have not completed projects- I have but it has been a bit busy and also computer issues!
This was a project I completed for my new great niece.  Her room is done in Minnie Mouse and this is what I came up with:

Of course, I think it looks  much better with a baby laying on it!

Merry Christmas and Happy New year!  Enjoy the time with your family and friends!

Cowl Needed!

This summer, I corcheted a cowl for my son's girlfriend, Alyssa.  I always take photos of everything I make but did not take time for this cowl.  I had to get it ready for when I traveled to California to see him mid summer (I know NOT cowl weather!).   Anyway, he was supposed to take a photo for me.  Given that he had a whirlwind trip to give this to her for her birthday.  I was surprised that he remembered the present at all!
Anyway on a trip to Pittsburgh this weekend, it WAS time to break out the cowl!  Alyssa so gracefully modeled for me!  This cowl was modeled after Crochet in Color's pattern.  You can find it here:  http://crochetincolor.blogspot.com/2011/10/soft-stitch-cowl-pattern.html
But it you have looked at any of my work - you know I have difficulty in following any pattern!  So here is Alyssa with her perfect color cowl!

Now that the weather is cooling down- Happy Crocheting to keep your loved ones warm.

Bearded Wonder aka Bearded Beanie

It has been such a long time since I have posted.  I have not been crocheting much :(
But that is about to change with a baby blanket due by Dec 9 and thinking about Christmas presents!  I have managed to get this cute little hat out:

I am sorry for the bad photography but it was hard enough coraling him to get the photo!  It is a littel warm in Ohio for this time of year and he was not happy with having to put a hat and beard on!

So this was the next compromise!  He took the beard!  Again the hat is so cute but my lighting choice was poor!  He is dressing up like a hobo for Halloween!
It was a little tough and I had to improvise because I could not find a free pattern for a child!  But fun project!
Hope to show you more work soon!

Not ready for Summer to be over

It has been a long time since my last post.  I have been busy with so many things.  I started back to full time work two weeks ago and ended almost 20 days of traveling here, there and everywhere.  I have been to California, Canada, Columbus Ohio and Pittsburgh.
I have kept my fingers somewhat busy but so many projects are in my head!
This is the poncho I made to dream about next summer:

It can be worn like this or like this:

I love the colors!  But my son's girlfriend did recognize that the yarn was the same as my wine Cozy! I will be able to say that I am again just like fine wine!

Several months ago, I saw someone with one of these necklaces:

I have wanted to make one so much and today I found that my secretary was selling them!  This one was made by prison women!  The profits go to help prison ministries!  It has beautiful blues in it!

I hope all who read this are doing well and preparing for a great weekend.  If you are reading this please leave me a comment!  Would love to know that I am not the only one reading my blog!

Summer Sinusesssssssssss

It stinks to have the summer blahs!  With all the traveling and different environments, I think my head decided to give in to a sinus infection.  So I have kept it easy all day.  I did finish towel holders that I started 2-3 years ago. I had enough left over to make a washcloth using Shari's pattern from
http://sharicrochet.blogspot.com/  I am not sure I will be able to do dishes with it since it is so cute!

I also have to share this photo of Lexie and her blanket that I made in May.  It is so nice to see her relaxing on it!!

Have a nice weekend and here's to feeling better!

summer vacations and croceht gifts!

I have been busy traveling over the last 2 and half weeks.  I have been to Jasper Indiana to pay respects to my God Daughter whose son died at the age of 3 unepectedly.  What a tragedy and something that makes you wonder why.  Please keep the family of Kai in your prayers.

I got home from there and left the next afternoon to visit my son in Sunnyvale Ca!  What a wonderful trip!  He had a plans for us to see several sights - a beautfiul beach at Half Moon Bay and the Muir Woods!  WOW!  Sharing a couple of photos:

Yes that is an Apple- he is so blessed to be able to work there this summer!

Half Moon Bay

Muir Woods!  Adam is 6'5".  I hope that helps with perspecive!

Next I came home for one day and drove to Saule Ste. Marie Canada to meet with friends that I have blogged with for 9 years.  Of course I crocheted them something:

a Wine bottle Cozy with a bottle of nice wine!  The colors were pretty but did not show well!

A water bottle cozy to carry your water!

I made another the same colors as the wine cozy for our host!

I loved the wine cozy so much- I made myself two!

I actually took pictures as I crocheted them on the road home.  I will be posting them soon and writing the pattern I made up- my first ever!

Have a great day- Enjoy the sunshine and find your thankfuls today!

Trying in on Thursday!

I will be meeting friends this summer that I have been in contact with for many years- never to meet face to face!  I have been wracking my brain to try to make them each something.  The openwork poncho is not turning out as well- I may need to ask for help!  So this is what I am trying for now:

It is a journal cover!  I think it will turn out nice and I found the multi-color cotton for $1.37 on clearance at Hobby Lobby!  Yes- I am heading over there this afternoon for more!
I hope that you are having a great day and thank you for reading!

Open work poncho- trial

New work in progress is an openwork poncho inspired by Liz at crochetincolor.blogspot.com. Her poncho was so pretty but she was correct when she mentioned that it is difficult crocheting with a large hook with finer yarn. I chose Deborah Norville Serenity Garden Yarn which is a "2" weight.

I am not sure how this will turn out but will keep you posted!
Speaking of keeping you posted- is there anybody reading? I havenever had any comments so not sure and no followers as of yet!  Let me know!

Summer days and birthdays!

It has been several weeks since my last post. It was a busy month of May- work "stuff", my son's college graduation and my almost 50 party!  So little time for crafting and and working on getting healthier!  Friday was the real "50" day and I must say that I really don't feel older!
These are a few photos of the celebrations!

These are my children and bestest friend Connie.

This is my son after his University Honors Convocation!

I look forward to getting many projects around the house and taking better care of me.  And more posting!

Thanks for stopping by!

Lexie's Heart of our hearts Blanket!

Life has been pretty busy and I have been trying to finish a baby blanket for Lexie.  She was born on Friday!  I finished it Friday night and wove in the knots tonight.  It will go in the mail tomorrow.  I found the heart pattern through Crochet pattern central but the pattern had some errors - plus if you have been reading, I have a hard time following them exactly anyways!  This is a photo of the Heart of our Hearts Baby blanket!

The second photo shows more of the true colors.  The first shows the hearts!  It really turned out pretty although it is not without errors!  That is what makes it handmade!

I am also making one in pink and light lime green.  This is for my daughter's "Big Sister" from her sorrority! Due date late June for the baby shower.... plenty of time! This is the color of the green....

Hope you all had a Happy Mother's Day!  I did!

two in one day!

It is so nice to finally get a project done.  My nephew and his wife are expecting any day- for sure by Tuesday so I wanted to get the Baby Blanket done before her birth!  I am holding it for randsom thought until I am able to hold their new baby girl!  It was inspired by Samantha at http://thehandmadedress.blogspot.com/.  It is a no hole granny.  I love the colors but the shaping is not as nice as I would have liked it to be!  But is it made with love!

You can see the curling of the edges!  I don't know how to block and perhaps that would have helped?  I know they will love it regardless!
I also made a nursing cover for them.  We saw one at a mom to mom sale and they seemed rather expensive and so I made one for less than $6!  The worst part is that my sewing machine broke 5 minutes before I was finished and had to stitch some by hand!  I love the fabric- pretty and feminie!  There are patterns for the all over it you are interested in making one too- about 45 minutes of time and simple!

I hope you have had a great weekend- mine was!
Onto start my next project!

I had a spectacular Easter!  I hope everyone did as well.  I had the good fortune to have the day off!  I spent time with family and also made a new summer bag!  I tried to follow a pattern that I found online but ended up doing my own thing.

I loved the fabric colors and am not sure my photos did it justice.  I had fun trying something new!  My sewing machine got a work out and now my fingers better get going to get the baby blanket in progress completed!

Our family also does an Easter egg coloring contest!  Here are the original eggs!

And the top 3 are:

So much fun and it adds memories to the time we spend together!

Now time to get the dishes done!

Finally a WIP!

I am so excited to have finally made my mind up!  I tried so many different patterns hoping for some pattern that would show off the Vanna Baby Pink.  I almost gave up and then was inspired by a blanket on the handmade dress blog and one that I had done in December.  A granny!  It is a filled in granny with less holes so I am hoping more infant friendly.  This one is for my soon to be great niece!

This may show the colors a bit better!  And I am not sure on the color variation pattern as of yet. Baby girl D is not due until May but I needed to get my fingers busy when I can!

3/3 Done....now what is next?

I am now finished with the third project!  It was the basket inspired by Liz from Crochet in Color.  Unfortunately, when I started the project, I did not read the directions well enought.  I used Jiffy now Jiffy thick and quick so I had to modify it.  It turned out pretty well. My plans are to use it as an onion basket!  Already has onions in it now!

Sorry about the poor photography!  But it does look cute!  Crocheting with 2 strands and an L hook made my hands tired but I will try another one soon!
But first- I have two baby blankets to make- one for a girl and the other for sex to be a surprise!  If anyone has ideas for a pretty but easy pattern for Pink Poodle - Vanna's Choice Baby Yarn please let me know!
Happy Crafting and Enjoy the warm weather!

Not one of the 3 but should have been on the list

I was so excited this weekend to get a few more projects done! I could not find pillows to match my sofa and bring it together with my overstuffed and comfy blue chair. I was pretty excited to find a paisley that brought the two together perfectly!    Then I had to find something to store all these projects in so I found baskets on clearance and made basket liners!  Love them too!  Yes that is a gazelle in the background!  Tomorrow- its gazelle time!

So now off to finshe dishes and work on my basket - project 3 of the original 3!

2 out of 3 ain't bad!

I am happy to say that 2 of my three projects are done!  I modified the back of the poncho and added a chain woven in to "tighten" it up as the little 4 year old is a tiny one!  I was afraid that it would slip right off her!  I was hoping to get a photo of her in it today at her party but she was a little busy with Barbies!  So here is a photo of the back I took before hand!

The pillow did not do the colors justice so hopefully I will be able to get a photo of the princess with it on!

The is the second- the prayer shawl to donate to the Women's event!  I love the colors!  I wouldn't mind winning it myself!

Next projects? Finish the basket - and 2 baby blankets!

projects --- too many!

Today I am feeling like too many projects not enough time!  These are the three that I am working on right now!  This is the one closest to being done... another poncho for a birthday girl!  I have 10 days to finish this!

This is the second!  It is the bottom of a basket thanks to Crochet in Color Blog.  I goofed though and used yarn weight 5 instead of 6!  So I am having to modify the pattern.  It is pretty tough with two strands of Jiffy with an L hook!  This is just for fun and no deadline.

This is the third - for now!  It is a prayer shawl to donate to an upcoming women's event. I loved this Lion Brand Tweed color!  I adapted this from a pattern for the Isar scarf pattern on Ravelry by Julia Vaconsin.  Deadline is March 6.  It is really much prettier in person so I know that it will be hard keeping my hands off!  I have to clean the house sometimes!

Also I bet you have guessed - I dont't do well at following patterns to a T!  This is why I make simple projects that I can modify here and there to make it easier and to fit my needs!
Look for project updates soon!

Granny Baby Blanket and Beanie!

I made this in December for a precious little one!  Her hat was a little big but now fits perfect!  She grew into it.  Her blanket was a non traditional granny blanket!  It is nice and warm.  It is made with Vanna's Choice!

I am hoping to post my two new cowls soon!

Love the retro look- toddler poncho

This is my last completed project - a poncho for a 3rd birthday girl!  She looks so cool with her matching boots!
For the poncho, I modified different patterns that I saw online and used Deborah Norville Serenity Chunky weight yarn!  It was a quick project but I think she looks adorable!

I love to crochet.  It is very relaxing.  I look up patterns and photos to see what wonderful things can be created.  I am not sure what I want from this blog yet but am being open!
